Team Predictions
- Oracle Red Bull Racing: Red Bull has a winning concept for the second year in a row. They seem to have improved on most topics since 2022 and with two reliable drivers, they will not have issues securing this year's championship.
- Scuderia Ferrari: Ferrari comes in 2023 with a new team principal who will have to make some tough decisions. If they will fix their reliability issues and choose the correct strategies might find themselves in the fight for wins, but it is hard to believe that they will match Red Bulls performance, especially on race pace.
- Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team: Mercedes came for the second year in a row with a "zero sidepod concept" which seems again not the be the winning card. They will find it hard to fight even Ferrari this year, but most probably they will get the better of Aston Martin in the end.
- Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team: Aston Martin presented a Red Bull-inspired concept for 2023, which seems to be a successful one. Still, they might struggle to develop the car as fast as Mercedes and Ferrari during the year, so it is expected that they will finish the championship 4th.
- BWT Alpine F1 Team: Alpine starts the season with an all-French driver line-up which might need time to adapt. Also, they struggled during the last years with reliability issues which they could not solve. This aspect will keep them behind the top 4 teams.
- McLaren F1 Team: For the second year in a row, McLaren starts the season with big issues related to the braking systems. Their strong development team will help them recover during the season, but it seems unlikely that they can catch Alpine or Aston Martin during this season if we talk about car performance.
- Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake: Same as Haas, Alfa Romeo seems to start with a fast car around one lap, but struggles during race pace and history show that they are unable to develop the car as fast as the competition does during the season.
- MoneyGram Haas F1 Team: Haas appears to have a good car, but history proves that their car development through the year usually seems them on the back foot compared with the competitors.
- Williams Racing: The Williams car seems to be improved compared to last year and in some races, they might fight for points, especially if Alex Albon keeps his stellar performances, but the gap towards the next teams still might be big.
- Scuderia AlphaTauri: The AlphaTauri 2023 car seems to be very poor performance-wise and the team might struggle to develop it further and solve the issues, also with the pressures coming from the news that Red Bull might sell the team.
Driver Predictions
- Max Verstappen: Given the performance of the 2023 car, it seems Max will not have a contender for the 2023 title.
- Sergio Perez: The performance gap between the Red Bull car and the competition will assure Sergio a safe second-place finish in the championship.
- Charles Leclerc: Charles is a world-class driver that will extract the most from the Ferrari car, although it seems that the car is not close performance-wise with the Red Bull this season.
- Lewis Hamilton: Lewis will focus more on results this year, after last year spent most of the season developing the car for the team.
- Carlos Sainz: Carlos is a consistent driver and the performance of the car will help him against the competition, but he lacks the talent to fight with the world-class drivers on the current grid.
- Fernando Alonso: Fernando is proving that he is one of the most talented Formula 1 driver in history and using his extensive experience and a good base car offered by Aston Martin he will be in the mix with Mercedes and Ferrari, fighting for podiums. Still, the development of the car through the season might not keep the pace of the larger teams.
- George Russel: George seems to be struggling with this lack of performance from the Mercedes car and most probably this frustration will force him to make mistakes during the season.
- Lance Stroll: Lance will benefit from the performance of the car and consistently be in the mix with the other top teams.
- Esteban Ocon: Esteban's experience with the Alpine team will be valuable in the fight with his teammate. Still, given the close talent levels of the two Alpine drivers, he will need to stay clear of incidents in order to finish above Pierre.
- Pierre Gasly: Pierre is a very talented driver, but he is changing teams for the first time in his career, so he needs to adapt to a new environment. The performance of the car will keep him in front of the last 5 teams, but he might struggle to overtake the top drivers.
- Lando Norris: Lando is a world-class talent, but unfortunately the McLaren car does not help him at all at the moment. Still, if they can solve their issues in the next races, like they were able to also last year, he can get into the mix for the points.
- Valtteri Bottas: Valtteri seems to alternate very good performances with very quiet races. If the Alfa Romeo car will not develop as well through the season as the competition, he might have a very silent second part of the championship.
- Guanyu Zhou: Although Guanyu seems to have been closing the gap to Valtteri, he still struggles in race pace. At the same time, the development of the Alfa Romeo car through the season most probably will not keep up with the competition.
- Oscar Piastri: Unfortunately the McLaren car for 2023 seems to be very poor at the beginning of the year, which will not help a rookie like Oscar too much. Still, as the team has the necessary resources, they can come back and Oscar can get some points in the second part of the season.
- Alex Albon: Alex seems to continue to impress with this Williams car and if he continues with this brilliant racing style, he will get points in a few races through the season.
- Niko Hulkenberg: Niko seems a more consistent driver than Kevin, but the performance of the car might not help him enough this season.
- Kevin Magnussen: The Haas car does not seem to be very strong compared to the competition and Kevin has a habit of getting himself involved in too many race incidents.
- Yuki Tsunoda: Yuki will raise as the team leader in his 3rd Formula 1 year, but unfortunately the performance of the car will not help him get points too often.
- Logan Sargent: Although a rookie, the Williams car seems to have better performance in some conditions, so a slim chance for points might appear in some races, if he is able to drive clean.
- Nyck De Vries: The Alpha Tauri car for 2023 seems to be a fail, as given the fact that Nyck is still a rookie, he will struggle to get points with this car.
Most Improved Driver: Alex Albon - Alex had a number of stellar performances during his 2022 season with Williams, which seem to continue also in 2023. He has a good chance to have an even stronger 2023 and find a seat at a better team for the future.
Most Improved Team: Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team - following the Red Bull concept, the Aston Martin team seems to have drawn a winner card with the 2023 car, which allows them to fight with the top teams. Still, the season is long and they might lose some pace during the season while the rest of the teams might solve their initial issues and develop their cars, so a mount for a top 3 spot might be out of reach, but for sure finishing 4th would make them the overachievers of the season.
Closest Teammates: Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly - The newly formed French pairing will be for sure to battle on the race track for points and positions all through the season. The two one times race winners seem to have similar levels of talent and motivation and if they stay away from technical issues we might see at Alpine F1 Team the closest driver pairing of the 2023 season.
